2 Things To Check When Your Air Conditioner Breaks
Posted on: 19 June 2020
Your air conditioning may be the only thing that can keep your house comfortable during the really hot days of summer. So when it stops working, you want to do everything you can to get it working again so that you don't end up sitting in a puddle of sweat. While the first thing you do is probably call a repair tech to come work on it, you may end up having to wait for a while for them to get there, depending on how busy the company is. That means that you may want to do some troubleshooting to see if you can fix the problem, or at least eliminate some things.
Check the Filters
One thing that you can do is to check to see what the filters look like. The filters are in charge of catching dust, dirt, pollen, and so forth. They get clogged, which can block the airflow from the AC as it runs through your ducts and out into your house. Blocking that airflow means that you aren't going to get as much cool air. It's also going to make your air conditioner work harder, which could eventually burn your motor out and cause some expensive repairs. So, you want to check your filters to see if they are clean. You may be able to rinse your filters out and then put them back in. You can also just buy new filters to put into place. If nothing else, that will get your airflow back to where it should be.
Check Your Power Source
If your air conditioner isn't running at all, then you should check to see that it's getting power. The easiest way to do that is to go to your circuit breaker panel and check to see if any of the switches are in the off position. If they are in the off position, then all you need to do is to flip it over to the on position. Then, go back to your air conditioner and see if it turns on. You can do that by turning the thermostat down very low to see if that triggers the AC. If the circuit immediately breaks again, then you need to wait until the repair tech gets to your house so that they can fix it without risking any serious damage.
If you hate the heat, you depend on your air conditioner. If it breaks, you want to talk to a repair tech and have them check it out for you. There are some things you can do to see if you can get your air conditioner running sooner. Reach out to an AC repair service for more information.
